- North England is home to the largest biodiesel plant in Europe and the largest cluster of biofuels operations in the UK. Companies receive support from Northeast Biofuels, an industry association of companies across the biofuel process, from farming to processing and distribution.
- North England offers strategic port sites with easy access to dry cargo berths for feedstock imports and first-class bulk liquid storage terminals for blending and fuel export.
The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) at Wilton in Tees Valley, is involved in cutting edge R&D projects in biofuels, fuel cells and other areas of biotechnology offering enormous opportunities for the future.
An INEOS Bio energy from waste plant is being developed in Tees Valley – a pioneering second generation biofuel refinery.
A major project on the PV front is the creation of solar cell canopies by Romag, in Durham, for use in the electric car charging points network being rolled out across the North East.
