Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (Daresbury SIC) has been named as the UK's "Most Outstanding Science Park" at the UK Science Parks Association's annual awards.
The campus, which has received £50m of investment from the North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA), is one of only two Government-funded science and innovation campuses in the UK and has been identified by the agency as a major driver for the region's economy, with more than £20m of private sector funding being secured by campus tenant companies to date.
The award was presented to the science park most able to demonstrate that it provides an environment in which it is possible to provide access to new markets, contribute to technology development, provide access to finance, enhance supply and distribution networks and increase on-park business-to-business interactions. In particular, the park was praised for developing a 2,000-strong network of individual members who attended regular series of events.
"We're delighted to have our activities acknowledged nationally through this award, especially as it revolves around the importance of collaborative networks, which are what make Daresbury SIC so effective," said the campus's general manager, John Leake. "Our tenant companies, which include some of the UK's most innovative young businesses, enjoy unrivalled support and access to knowledge on Campus."
