Manchester Expands Online Services with Addition of eNom
Friday, July 6th
Manchester has become home to one of the world leaders in online services and domain name registration with the decision by eNom to set up an office in the city.
eNom aids companies with their websites and email addresses. The company is the second largest domain name registrar worldwide, and the number one registrar for resellers, with the largest, most active distribution network in the domain industry. Domain resellers provide registration of available domain names for their clients, and often also engage in the process of acquiring expired domains for later re-sale.
The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) came into contact with eNom at Call Centre Expo, held at the Birmingham NEC in 2005. Running a stand at the event in conjunction with Call Northwest, a support organisation for the Northwest's call centres, the Agency established contact with eNom who expressed an interest in locating an office in the UK.
The Agency, in conjunction with Call Northwest and MIDAS, then conducted a property search for the company and hosted a visit where the company chose offices on Portland Street in Manchester. This is the first European office that the company have opened.
Mark Hughes, Executive Director of Enterprise, Skills and Innovation said:
"The addition of a company of eNom's stature to the business community in the Northwest is an example of the type of industry we're now attracting to the region but also a fine example of the type of partnership working the Agency is involved in. The involvement of Call Northwest and the North of England Inward Investment Agency coupled with the work of Business Relations within the NWDA was vital in persuading the company to open an office here but also demonstrates the levels of aftercare we as an Agency take great pride in."
Call Northwest are in the process of helping the company find staff for their Manchester operation. eNom are expected to recruit up to 50 technical support and sales staff predominantly from the Manchester area over the next three years with their main objective being to support the company's European customer base.
Thomas Kirby, Director of Call Northwest, said:
"One of our objectives is to allow contact centre professionals to source information and share ideas so when we met eNom's representatives and heard their intentions to relocate to the Northwest, we were keen to show the repertoire of services that we could provide to help facilitate the move to this region. There are over 570 contact centres and 131,000 people employed in the sector in the Northwest alone so we're well placed to offer a broad range of knowledge to companies considering coming here."
The North of England Inward Investment Agency has also continued to maintain the links formed with eNom's parent company in Seattle. The Agency represents two of the three Regional Development Agencies for the North of England - the NWDA and One NorthEast.
Frank de Jong, UK Technical Support Manager at eNom, said:
"The support that the company received from the NWDA, North of England and Call Northwest was one of the factors that persuaded us to come to this area of the UK. It continued after the property search with introductions to business networks and Chambers of Commerce across Greater Manchester and the Northwest which can only help our operation to continue to develop."
