Food factory to recruit 90 posts
Friday, February 2nd
A food manufacturer in Cumbria is to create 90 jobs, less than a year after 600 posts were lost.
Cavaghan and Gray in Carlisle, which makes ready meals, has recently secured a £10m contract to supply Asda. Recruitment for the jobs in production, logistics and line and senior management at the London Road site will begin in mid-February. The company is working with Carlisle City Council to recruit local people and provide pre-employment training. A council spokesman said it was the first time the local authority had worked alongside the private sector in such a way. Councillor Mike Mitchelson, leader of Carlisle City Council, said: "Cavaghan and Gray's proposed investment is great news for Carlisle, its economy, its local residents and the city's ongoing renaissance. "Not only will it provide a much needed boost to one of our key employment sectors but it will also bring around 90 new jobs to an area of the city in need of employment resurgence."
