Durham University
In addition to other research and studies, Durham University's New and Renewable Energy Group conducts first-class research in wind, wave and marine current energy converters, hybrid engines/generators, and other renewable areas.
University of Liverpool
With Manchester University, it co-created the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering. Its computer science department is highly rated for research quality by the UK government. Also its Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine [new window link: http://www.liv.ac.uk/lstm/] is home to the Centre of Infectious & Tropical Diseases, the oldest tropical school in the world.
Manchester University
It is the UK's largest single site university with 28,000 students, and its computer science department is highly rated for research quality by the UK government. It is also home to the largest medical school in Europe and is co-creator of the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering.
University of Newcastle
Its School of Marine Science and Technology [new window link: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/marine/] is the largest and broadest-based marine school in the UK. Its computer science department is highly rated for research quality by the UK government. And the university's Institute for Research on Environment and Sustainability is a multidisciplinary group of scientists seeking holistic solutions to environmental issues.
University of Sunderland
It is home to one of the UK's largest pharmacy schools. The university also has the largest IT teaching lab in the UK and supplies more computer graduates to Microsoft's UK division than any other British university. It is also home to the Microsoft Regional Centre, a Certified Cisco Academy and the Sony Media Centre.
University of Teesside
It produces twice the computing graduates than the UK average and is a top 10 UK university for quality in teaching IT subjects. The university's Institute of Digital Innovation brings businesses and technology researchers together to create new products and content.
